Etihad Airways has inaugurated its new service to Nairobi, further extending its international network and underscoring its role in connecting key global destinations. The maiden flight, which operated on Sunday from Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport, highlights the airline’s strategic focus on bridging the UAE with Africa’s prominent economic and tourism hubs.

Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer of Etihad Airways, emphasized the significance of the new route. “The introduction of our Nairobi service enhances our growing network while responding to strong travel demand between the UAE and Kenya, as demonstrated by today’s completely full inaugural flight,” he stated. De noted that the route will bolster tourism and trade ties, benefiting both destinations. He also pointed to the broader goal of solidifying Abu Dhabi’s position as a global aviation hub while tapping into Kenya’s expanding tourism market.

Kenya, currently witnessing substantial growth in its tourism sector, anticipates welcoming 3 million visitors by the end of 2024, with ambitions to increase this to 5 million in the near future. The new Etihad service aligns with these growth aspirations, creating a seamless travel corridor for business and leisure travelers between the two regions.

The Nairobi service marks the latest achievement in a year of rapid expansion for Etihad Airways. Over the course of 2024, the airline introduced flights to several prominent destinations, including Antalya, Bali, Boston, Jaipur, Kozhikode, Mykonos, Nice, Qassim, and Thiruvananthapuram. This strategic growth has significantly broadened its global footprint, reinforcing its status as one of the Middle East’s leading carriers.

Looking ahead, Etihad Airways is preparing for an ambitious 2025, with plans to launch routes to thirteen additional destinations. These include Warsaw and Prague in June; Al Alamein and Atlanta in July; Taipei in September; Medan, Phnom Penh, and Krabi in October; and Tunis, Chiang Mai, Hong Kong, Hanoi, and Algiers in November. These expansions reflect the airline’s commitment to meeting increasing demand for global connectivity and delivering enhanced travel experiences.

The launch of the Nairobi route not only strengthens the UAE’s aviation sector but also fosters deeper economic and cultural ties between Abu Dhabi and Kenya. As tourism and trade between the two regions continue to grow, the service is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting these developments. Etihad Airways remains focused on its mission of driving innovation, sustainability, and excellence in air travel, leveraging Abu Dhabi’s position as a strategic gateway to the world. – By MENA Newswire News Desk.
